Description
Marine bird and mammal survey for CAML, on board of the ice breaker "Ivan Papanin" in the Southern Ocean, with the International Polar Foundation. more
A specific part of the CAML programme deals with the top predators (birds and mammals) and calls to contributions from observers from all Antarctic voyages during the International Polar Year 2007-2009. An opportunity to contribute to the CAML synoptic network of top predators observations was offered to RBINS by the International Polar Foundation during the Cape Town-Antarctic voyage of the relief ship Ivan Papanin which will bring construction materials to the new Belgian Antarctic “Princess Elisabeth station” to Queen Maud Land. Observations of birds and marine mammals will be systematically conducted onboard according to the protocols established by CAML. Quantitative and qualitative data will be reported to CAML and made publicly accessible through the SCAR-Marine Biodiversity Information Network (www.scarmarbin.be).
